Progress Update: Sunspot, Eris

My Favorite Cattleyas.....

.....are doing fantastic so far. Both are showing lots of growth in the three months I've had them and since repotted into semi-hydro. Sunspot (Myrmecatavola Frances Fox 'Sun Spots') and Eris (Iwanagara Appleblossom 'Golden Elf') are both medium sized cattleya hybrids. I got both of these orchids around the same time and both and been maturing new growths after I bought them.

Sunspot is maturing the new growth (second to the left) at a good rate. She is also growing another lead on the other side which starts out as a dark purple swell that lightens to green as the bulb matures and puts out leaves. Her roots are growing into the pot, with a little help directing them downard in some places. I have every confidence that Sunspot will be establishing herself in no time!

This growth has taken a bit longer than the other plant to grow, mostly due to my own mistakes. Eris has taken everything in stride though and continues to mature a large new pseudobulb which has recently exploded into root growth. The maturing bulb is going to really help this orchid settle in and adapt to the new media. The  older bulbs are showing a little strain but are overall still plump and happy. Eris will be just fine by the time this plant puts own some new growths!
